The 8 Steps to a Killer Prospecting System

From the Desk of Garrick Brown

Terranomics   Retail Newsline
Week Ending December 2, 2012

All indications   are that despite the continued challenges of the aftermath of Super Storm   Sandy in the Northeastern United States, that the holiday sales season got   off to a strong start. First Data Corporation’s SpendTrend analysis indicated   a 5.6% increase in annual sales over 2011. You can find the full report   online here. No surprise though that sharp discounts helped to drive   these numbers, particularly for consumer electronics. This is a double-edged   sword. For example, while Best Buy was declared the undisputed winner in this   category by Wall Street (sending its stock price up nearly 11%) one has to   wonder about the long-term implications of annual extreme discounting and   loss leaders. As much as the trend of showrooming (consumers shopping in   bricks and mortar stores, but doing their actual purchasing online) has been   most detrimental to consumer electronics players, one can’t help but wonder   if we are training shoppers to only purchase televisions and computers during   the Black Friday Weekend (BFW). Regardless, ShopperTrac estimates that foot   traffic on BFW weekend increased a robust 8.2% and they report approximately   $22 billion spent (and a 2.7% increase) over BFW. Much of this increase is   attributed to earlier opening times, with most stores that opened their doors   on Thanksgiving reporting strong foot traffic.
